The basic Chaffle recipe is simply cheese and egg. We, of course, have taken it a step further and perfected the recipe with the addition of just a few more ingredients. And the best part, it only takes a couple of minutes to prepare.

The Chaffle can be used for hamburger buns, hot dog buns, tortillas, Monte Cristos, pizza, and even desserts. And it doesn’t stop there. Think of the possibilities! Just when we think we can’t love this keto lifestyle anymore, along comes the Chaffle. This is our version of the Chaffle recipe. So go ahead, Chaffle on.
Basic Chaffle Recipe
The basic recipe makes 2 small Chaffles. Serving size is both Chaffles. These recipes can be doubled or even tripled. You can refrigerate them or even freeze them.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of cheese, shredded (you can use any cheese)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp of gluten-free baking powder
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of almond flour (can substitute with 1 tablespoon of coconut flour if desired)
Instructions:
Gather and prepare all your ingredients and preheat your waffle maker.
Mix together your egg, shredded cheese, baking powder, and almond or coconut flour.
Pour half your mixture into the waffle maker. Cook till done. Remove. Pour the remaining batter into the waffle maker and cook.
We bought the small Dash brand mini waffle maker and the mini griddle (you can use either one) to use with this recipe and it makes the perfect size Chaffle. Don’t have a mini waffle maker? You can use a regular waffle maker or skillet in a pinch.

Versatile

The Chaffle recipe is very versatile.
For a hamburger or hot dog Chaffle bun, we use the basic recipe with cheddar or Monterey jack cheese. For a sweet variation, we prefer to use mozzarella cheese. The kind of cheese you use is completely up to you.
Chaffle Variations
For each variation, you will combine the ingredients listed then cook just as you would the basic Chaffle recipe. When cooking chaffle only add approximately 2 to 2 1/2 tablespoons of batter to the mini waffle maker. If you are using a regular size waffle maker split the batter in half.
These variations make 3 to 4 servings.

Have you ever tried cream cheese or mixed it with mozzarella for a sweeter product? Think it would be too liquid? No? Yes?
If you look down on the variations you will see some of the recipes do use cream cheese. We did lower the amount of mozzarella cheese and up the almond flour for the recipes that contain cream cheese. It doesn’t make it more liquid but it does make it softer and takes longer to cook.
Thank you for these! I just received my Dash and can’t wait to get started! I’ve been off keto for too long and gained my weight back, I think this is going to help me get back on track!
Oh, that is great. Good luck on getting back on the keto diet. We are here for you if you need us.
If you want the chaffle crispy, add shredded cheddar to the iron a few seconds before the batter and then top with more after adding the batter. The cheddar gives it a crispy shell. Not too much, just a dusting of it.
We will have to try that. Thank you for the tip.
I just tried the cinnamon roll recipe and itβs amazing! I more than doubled the recipe to freeze for returning back to work. Thank you for posting these I cannot wait to try the others.
Awesome, we are so glad you enjoyed it.
The chocolate one has a bitter taste. What can I do to keep it from having a bitter taste.
What sweetener are you using. We have found that certain sweeteners turn bitter when used with chocolate.
Do you have to use almond flour?
No you do not have to.
I used the pizza recipe, doubled it and added black olives. Served them as dippers in pizza sauce.
I am trying to figure out how you get just 2 carbs for the Basic chaffle recipe?
By my carb manager calculations (and looking at the packages):
1 egg = 1g (.06)
1/2 cup shredded cheese (mexican blend) = 2g (I have lots of cheeses and they are all about this)
Almond Flour (Bob’s Red Mill) = 2g per tbsp
Baking Powder = 0g
If you use 2tbsp of Almond flour that adds up to 7g.
We do not use pre-shredded cheese. Pre-shredded cheese has potato starch added so will have extra carbs. I am using Blue Diamond almond flour. It is 1g of carbs per 2 tablespoons. 1 egg is 0.6g, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese is 0.4g, If you used cheddar cheese it would be 0.7 net carbs.
1 egg = 0.6
1/2 cup cheese = 0.4g
Blue Diamond almond flour = 1g
Baking powder = 0
That totals 2g
